Impressions of the Games Convention
Several days since the this year's Games Convention in Germany, we resumed some new, partly exclusive pieces of information from Managing Director Slavo Hazucha, which will be specified in the following (on this place thanks to TobiTobsen from the forums for the talk with the developer and the gameplay-report).
Top-graphics without needs
To say something regarding graphics first - Elveon doesn't promise too much on the screenshots and is just as good looking as them in action. The occuring crashes and clipping-mistakes from the early demonstration-version weren't able to alter this impression. In consideration to the fact that the development of the game still requires more than an year , bugs like this are normal anyway.
Nevertheless the hardware requirements are set adequate, since the world won't be completely open like e.g. in Gothic 3 or Oblivion, but splitted in areas. However you will still have enough free space in this areas to explore everything, and find Subquests or rare weapons in ancient ruins and forests besides the main quest. All in all Elveon will be splitted in 12 areas.
Battlefield ? the first era?!?
The mentioned weapons and other items like potions, etc. you will get only as rewards for solved quests, as goods from defeated enemies . A trading system like in other RPG's won't be integrated in Elveon, neither with NPC's nor via multiplayer-swapping.
view there will be two versions. First the duel-mode in which two adversaries are fighting against each other. The second version will be the team-mode. As Managing Director Slavo Hazucha said, you can imagine this mode similar to the Capture The Flag-mode from Battlefield, only that in Elveon you won't have to capture flag-points but other fulcrums and there will be less players. At the moment the tests for the maximum number of players are running, under discussion are four to eight. It's also planned to enlarge the multiplayer-part with an AddOn afterwards, whereas this depends on the success of Elveon.
Lived History
Moreover, the flashback-actions in the singleplayer-mode were explained more detailed. So, however, you will participate in interactive flashbacks, after which you will be switched between five other characters, besides the main character (who will be predetermined at the beginning by the way) during the game. These five characters are playing important roles within the Elvish history, so that the decisions you make while playing one of them in the flashbacks will put a big influence on the story and the situation in the ?current? time of the main character. The this way, the differentiated story is said to be one of the main appeals to finish the game faster.
We played it
Besides the mentioned information, now, a few impressions out of the test-level of Elveon were presented on the Games Convention and playable on the Xbox- and the Pc-version (it should be mentioned that the Pc-version looked considerably better).
The test-version included a small test-level and a tutorial. In the later one, you are challenged to a training-duel, in which the player learned the basic attacks, parrying, and some combinations in an more complex manner. 15 different of these combos were already implied in the demo, what let's conclude a considerable assortment in the final game. If one used one of the special moves the game uses a slow-motion-effect by the way, like it can be seen in some trailers too ? especially at critical hits that?s quite good staged. After finishing the tutorial a short inter-sequence followed, after which the player reached a little external area in front of a temple, in which the player had to enter, after fighting a few first enemies, so that he doesn't see really much of the exterior world of Elveon. The fluent animated characters spoke an Elvish language, which was together with an appropriated font specially developed for the game and occupied with subtitles.
All in all you have the chance to test all weapon-classes in the demo-level ? at the beginning the player only had a spear at his command, which was especially effective against more than one enemy at the same time, which was the usual situation in the test-level. In the course of the level one the player found an Elvish sword, two scimitars and a bow, too, for which he had an unlimited number of arrows. Furthermore it had a sight-help, so the aiming was quite easy.
The rest
You can find all used pictures also at our GC 2006 Gallery. Furthermore, at the Download-area, you can find three small video-files about the topic. (Thank you Stonecutter & Hornet for these!)
