Treknews.de Interview

Interview from Treknews.de with Slavo Hazucha at the Ring*Con 2006, Fulda, Germany.

Transcript of an interview from the video "TREKNEWS.DE LIVE von der RingCon5 aus Fulda". Together with other Ring*Con reports, the video takes about half an hour, but it is completely in German. However, you can download it here. The Elveon-Interview starts at about 21:00 minutes.

Treknews.de: With Elveon you have a new video game in developement. What genre is it?

Slavo Hazucha: It is an action role-playing game which presents a new game concept and a whole new world.

TN: A new game concept, a whole new world - so, what's it about?

Slavo: The game concept is based on a balancing between action and role-play, more to this later. The world of Elveon was created as an entire new fantasy world. Before the beginning of the main-programming works, we worked for serveral years just on a concept for this world. - and in this new and original world the game takes place.

TN: So Elveon is the name. It seems the game is about Elves?

Slavo: Exactly, the game is nearly exclusive about Elves. We show an universe comparable with the connection of The Silmarillion to The Lord of the Rings. An universe in an age, when the Elves were the great, dominating race and other races nearly didn't appear.

TN: There are already some scenes from the game to see, perhaps you can comment them a little?

The Elveon E3 2006 Trailer is shown.

Slavo: The core of the gameplay in Elveon is the comabt and action system. Therefor we created a very extensive and complex system. As you can see it in the trailer, the fights in the game will be hold exactly like this in the game. So the player will have much more freedom in "controlling the character". He also has access to a big ammount of moves and fighting strategies for use.

TN: So this means - if you think about a classic RPG, in which you increase your sword-fighting skill for better fighting - in Elveon it also depends on this skill or is it the player who's getting better?

Slavo: There is such a skill value, but it is not like in hardcore RPGs, in which you need Skill 30 to defeat a certain monster or enemy. To 60% it depends on the skill and tactics of the player himself and only about 30%-40% depends on the character's skill value. This balancing makes the player the main factor.

TN: Actually, on which platforms will the game be released?

Slavo: It will be released for PC and XBox360 in the 3rd quarter of the next year.

TN: Some time to go.

Slavo: Right. Here at the Ring*Con, we show an early PreAlpha-Demo and we'll still work about one year on the developement and optimization of the game, to present you a really good action package.

TN: Compared to other competitors of the genre - what makes Elveon especially independent?

Slavo: Let us e.g. take the just released Gothic 3 to compare. Elveon will clearly not have so much role-play - not as much directions, not as much dialogs, not as much quests - on the other side it offers much more action. You don't just have to learn something, waiting for a higher level. In the whole game you have to get more moves to improve your action skills and you have to use tactics more and more often - balancing offensive and deffensive, etc.

TN: Will there be a multiplyer part?

Slavo: Yes, there will be an great multiplayer part resulting from the fighting system. But we're planning to keep the developements for multiplayer on and want to extend it.

TN: Amazing. So, thank you for your time and much fun here at the Ring*Con.

Slavo: Thanks.
